Elif Sezen (b. Melbourne, 1981) is an Australian-Turkish multidisciplinary artist, bilingual writer, poet, linguist, based in Melbourne. She obtained her PhD in Fine Art from Monash University (2014), Bachelor of Painting (2004) and M.A. in Sculpture (2007) from Dokuz Eylul University, Faculty of Fine Arts. Elif is also a violin and cello enthusiast. She briefly studied violin in Epik School of Music at age 24, followed by a long break, she picked up the violin again at age 39, currently continuing her violin studies under Turkish violist/violinist Alp Gültekin; and cello studies under Ilona Grushynska.
Elif is currently (2025) working on multiple series of experimental landscapes with abstract, surreal, ethereal, celestial and psychedelic impressions. She is also working on a new series of sculptural objects, photographic works, poetry-based installations and mixed media works.
Her broader multidisciplinary art practice evolves
through various media including painting, drawing, sculpture, photography,
print media, installation, performance, digital media, artist's books
and poetry. In her work she speculates upon strategies of a renewed sense of homecoming, transcendence, multifaceted integration and healing by
poeticising and reconceptualising memory traces, existential states and a sense of place. She explores a wide range of themes from displacement, trauma,
grief, loss to alternate worlds/spaces and multifaceted landscapes that resonates with otherworldly atmospheres, dreamscapes, mindscapes and spacescapes. This explorative process leads her to a restorative and even a
celebrative notion of self-construction, desire, longing and a sense of
homecoming.
